Sigurd: Let’s Go for a Walk!

UPDATE: Sigurd has been adopted!

My husband and I have been fostering Sigurd since he was about eight weeks old. There were four kittens in his litter, and they joined our two current foster kittens, Ragnar and Brunhilde. Everyone else has long since found a home, but Sigurd still hasn’t found his forever family yet. I find that so hard to believe! He is such a sweetheart. He curls up next to me and naps while I work on the couch every day, and he’s such a hoot when he plays. One of his favorite things to do is carry his toys around. We’re forever finding toys in new spots around the house. And there is nothing more adorable than watching Sigurd trot through a room with a toy in his mouth.

He’s also the softest kitten you’ve ever petted! Whenever people are visiting the cat room at the adoption center, invariably someone will pet Sigurd, then call to whoever they came with, “Come here! You have to pet this kitten! He’s so soft!”

I tease him that he’s half Angora bunny. 😉

I have no doubt that Sigurd’s forever home is out there, just waiting to meet him. But until then, I wanted to show everyone a little of Sigurd’s adorableness — in this case, him playing with a feather toy, and taking me for a “walk” after he catches it. Enjoy!

Join ARFP for the Human Race!

April 16, 2016 is the 22nd Annual Human Race, a 5k walk/run put on by the Greensboro Volunteer Center to help local charities raise money for their causes. ARFP volunteers have walked in the Human Race every year, since the very beginning — 21 years! And this year is no different.

BUT…

We need more people to sign up to walk! So far we’ve got 10 people signed up to walk and raise money on behalf of ARFP. We’re hoping to get at least 25, but more would be even better!

This is an important fundraiser for us and goes a long way toward covering the medical bills for the homeless puppies and kittens in our program. Their adoption fees only cover a small portion of their medical costs, so we need fundraisers like the Human Race to help us keep saving homeless pets. Especially with puppy and kitten season just around the corner.

Check out ARFP’s Human Race page to learn more about registering to join us for this great fundraiser or to sponsor one of the walkers on our team.

NSAC Closed Easter Weekend

The Next Step Adoption Center will be closed this Saturday and Sunday, March 26-27, 2016, so our volunteers can spend Easter weekend with their families. We will reopen Wednesday, March 30, 2016, from 5pm – 8pm.

Applications on the Husky/Lab Puppies

We have received an overwhelming amount of interest in the husky/lab litter of pups. We are currently screening applications and returning calls as quickly as we can so please be patient if you have already shown interest. At this time we have an abundance of interest in these pups so please consider looking at other puppies, both with ARFP and at other area rescues and shelters. Thank you for choosing to adopt!

Bark for Life

This Saturday, November 14, 2015, ARFP will be at the American Cancer Society’s Bark for Life event in Greensboro, NC. We’ll be there with information about who ARFP is and what we do, T-shirts and pets toys for sale, and of course some of our amazing foster pups who are looking for homes!

The event is being held near Shelter #1 in Country Park and goes from 9 AM until 12:30 PM. Opening ceremonies are at 10 AM, with a survivor lap at 10:15 AM. Closing ceremonies are at 12:30 PM.

For more information, please visit http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR?pg=entry&fr_id=76261.

The Next Step Adoption Center will be open regular hours for feline adoptions. But if you’re interested in adopting a dog, please come see us at Bark for Life!

ARFP at the Antique Market Place

On Saturday, November 7, 2015, the Antique Market Place in Greensboro, NC, will be holding an antiques appraisal. You know, the MASSIVE antique mall you see as you drive down I-40. They’ll have knowledgeable appraisers on site between 11 AM and 2 PM this Saturday, and you can get your antiques appraised for $6 per item. Better yet, all the proceeds go to ARFP, to help us save more homeless pets!

We’ll be there, too, with the dogs and puppies in our program who are looking for good homes. So even if you don’t have any antiques that need to be appraised, you can still come out to browse and maybe find a great new forever friend!

The cats and kittens in our program will be holding down the fort at the NSAC, so if cats are more your style you can visit them at our adoption center between 11 AM and 3 PM. All the dogs will be busy antiquing at the Antique Market Place, though!

The Antique Market Place is located at 6428 Burnt Poplar Road, Greensboro, NC. For more information, visit http://www.triadantiques.com/.

Recycling Program Update

As of December 1, 2015, we will be ending most of our recycling program.

We will ALWAYS recycle used cell phones and used printer/toner cartridges. This has always been a good fundraiser and continues to be.

We will not continue to recycle most of the other things such as chip bags, make up, etc… This is a labor intense endeavor which has not turned out to be lucrative. We gave it a try, but it didn’t work out. Many, many thanks to Alicia Valenzuela McBirney for driving this fundraiser! What a wonderful mission, and we wish it was feasible to continue. Thank you to everyone that has participated. We will collect until December 1, 2015.
